Windows 10 to Overtake Windows 7 in Some European Markets

Windows 10 is increasing its share worldwide, but statistics reveal a rather slow overall adoption, with the new OS still very far behind leader Windows 7.

But as far as some European markets are concerned, Windows 10 is not only growing faster, but it?s also very close to overtaking Windows 7 and taking over the top spot.

Scandinavian markets have always been among the pioneers of new technology adoption, and it appears that Windows 10 makes no exception.

Denmark is one such case, as Windows 10 is currently at 30.86 percent in the country, less than 1 percent behind Windows 7, which is now powering 31.36 percent of the local desktops. This means that if the same trend is maintained, Windows 10 should become the leading desktop OS in Denmark as soon as the next month.

Europe and its growing appetite for Microsoft products
Windows 10 is doing quite well in other countries too. In Norway, for instance, Windows 10 is powering 26.56 percent, 10 percent more than the global market share, while Windows 7 leads the charts with 37.14 percent, this time 10 percent less that its score worldwide. Apple?s Mac OS X is also performing well here and is currently on the third spot with 17.07 percent.

Without a doubt, Europe is adopting Windows 10 at a much faster pace than the rest of the world, and this isn?t quite a surprise. Users on the Old Continent have always shown a growing appetite for new software in general, and Microsoft products in particular, with Windows Phone also benefitting from better adoption in this market.

Microsoft wants to bring Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017 and the growing share in Europe certainly helps and can compensate for markets where adoption still remains low. Windows 10 is offered as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 users until July 29, so these figures should continue improving everywhere around the world.
