Top NNPC officials sacked

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has dismissed the managing directors of the countrys three state-owned refineries as part of a major shake-up within the organisation.  Those affected are Ibrahim Onoja of the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHRC), Efifia Chu of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (WRPC), and Mustafa Sugungun of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC). In addition to the removal of the refinery heads, NNPC Ltd has also directed all management staff with less than one year remaining before retirement to proceed on exit. The changes, which were confirmed by a source familiar with the development, come amid ongoing restructuring efforts aimed at revamping the national oil companys operations. While replacements for the refinery MDs have not yet been officially announced, some senior executives across various departments were also affected. Among them are Bala Wunti, who recently moved from his role as Chief Upstream Investment Officer at the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) to Chief Health, Safety, and Environment Officer at NNPC Ltd, and Lawal Sade, the Chief Compliance Officer and former Managing Director of NNPC Trading. A senior official told Premium Times that the recent changes were part of a broad organisational overhaul and not targeted against allies of former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Mele Kyari. Earlier this month, President Bola Tinubu dismissed the NNPC board, including Kyari and board chairman Pius Akinyelure, as part of broader reforms in the oil and gas sector. Following the shake-up, Bayo Ojulari was named the new GCEO of NNPC Ltd, while Ahmadu Kida was appointed as the non-executive chairman. NNPC also unveiled a new eight-member senior management team, stating that the appointments were to take immediate effect.
