Court jails man for stealing 34 cows

Zaure Auta who was accused of stealing 34 cows has been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment with an option of the payment of N60,000 fine.

Auta, 42, was arraigned at a Magistrates court, Dutse, Abuja on Wednesday, 15 October, on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.

He was reported to have broken into the farm of one Mr. Moses Ayodele in Bwari on the 23rd of September, 2014. The cows were valued at N3 million.

The prosecution counsel informed the court that the offences were contrary to the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The accused person, Zaure Auta admitted commiting the offences as read to him. The Magistrate, Mr. Chukkwuemeka Nweke therefore sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of paying N60, 000 fine.

The cows were said to have since been returned to the owner, Mr. Ayodele.
