Google Updates Maps for Android with New Features and settings

Google pays extra attention when it comes to its Maps app, since it constantly receives new updates and added features. A few days ago, Google began rolling out a new update to Google Maps on Android, version 9.26.1. The changes are somewhat minor, but they do improve the overall user experience.
Last year, Google introduced a major feature for the Maps application, one that allowed users to search along route for finding places like gas stations or stores while on another trip. The feature had one major downside, namely that it only worked in driving mode.

Google Maps version 9.26.1 takes that into consideration and allows users to search for places while walking or on their bicycles. The new version also comes with changes to driving mode FABs. The Driving mode was introduced last year, and it brought users the opportunity to use tools in the Navigation mode without actually setting a destination.

The new change in Driving mode simplifies the voice command process and adds a permanent button at the top of the screen. The ‘Search for more places’ button was also renamed to ‘Search along route,’ and this option allows users to find places during their trip.

New features to come to Google Maps
The new version of Google Maps also comes with more notifications options. Google has added the option to receive updates about new and popular places near the user’s location. These places include businesses, attractions, restaurants, and many more. The notification is enabled by default, but users can turn it off from the Settings screen.

Moreover, Maps now comes with a shortcut to the OK Google on the Navigation screen. It also comes with an option that makes it easier to change the icon in Your Places screens.

Android Police has conducted a teardown of the Google Maps APK and has revealed some potentially upcoming features. Google Maps might be coming with an offline mode extension for warning users to download content before reaching an area with poor cellular coverage. It could also boast a Discover tool for providing destination suggestions based on the places the user visited before.
