While Kaitlin Olson is best known? for playing Dee in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, she takes a step away from the usual narcissism, vulgarity and general lack of morals for High Potential. ?
She plays? Morgan, a single mother of three with an impressive IQ of 160. Morgan has an extremely valuable ability to take one look at things and solve? problems easily, thanks to her photographic memory, obsessive attention to detail and encyclopaedic knowledge. ?
This skill? accidentally lands her in the world of solving crimes for the LAPD, despite having no background in the policing world. That’s much to the chagrin of Adam Karadec, a well-established detective who prefers to do things by the book. It’s a similar premise to the UK hit Ludwig, with an American twist.
High Potential was a big hit on both Hulu and Disney+, and now we have the first bits of news about season 2.
Is High Potential getting a season 2??

Kaitlin Olson revealed in a Q&A at a London screening of the premiere for Disney+ (where Tech Advisor was present) when filming was expected to begin, and based on her answer, we anticipated a Fall release date:
“I just wrapped Hacks… yeah so season four just finished, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia… I finished the end of last year –? season 17 is coming out… in the spring, I believe. And I’m gonna go home and be a mum for a couple months and then we start shooting this again in May.”?

What will the plot be for High Potential season 2??
Spoilers for High Potential season 1 below?
Olson’s interview at the UK Disney+ premiere gave us some clues as to what might be explored in season 2 – one of which includes Morgan’s past family life:?
“We didn’t have time to delve into her childhood, but that is the plan to sort of look into what happened when she was a kid. We sort of hint a little bit at not having a great relationship with her father later on in the season.”?
Olson also expressed an interest in learning more about the lives of other detectives, such as Karadec and Soto, and in seeing the stories of Ava’s missing father and Morgan’s ex, Roman, unfold.
TV Line reported that the supporting actors echo these sentiments. Oz’s actor, Deniz Akdeniz, said that he wants to get revenge for whoever put him in the pool, while Judy Reye wants to know more about Soto’s life outside of being a detective, stating: “Is she a parent? What’s her emotional history? And how does that bring her and [Morgan] closer together?”.

Disney
Roman will likely be key to the plot, as at the end of season 1, it was revealed that Karadec knew he was alive and his whereabouts. Roman turned out to be an FBI informant, which is most likely linked to his sudden disappearance. ?
Showrunner Todd Harthan explained some of the questions that audiences are thinking about when it came to the breakdown of his and Morgan’s relationship: “I think the audience has a real appetite to find out what really happened… What was it like the day they sat down and had a conversation about what wasn’t working? How did they decide how they should co-parent? What caused that? So now it’s our job to come up with a story”.
Thanks to the episode log lines below, we know now that Roman will be a key part of the plot in episodes 2 and 3.
One other key character in season 1 was the game-obsessed serial kidnapper, David, who left an ominous message to Morgan in her shopping bags that they’d ‘play again’ – a threat that he may come after her and her family. Harthan also told The Wrap that the plan is to “address it a little bit, find a healthy way to pivot to other things and then come back to it when it makes sense.”?
Otherwise, we can expect to see more cases each episode, and Morgan and Adam’s buddy-cop dynamic developing. The question is, is it just friendship… or something more? Morgan already had a romantic interest in janitor Tom (JD Pardo), though he’s now moved away to San Diego to become a nurse.
ABC also revealed the descriptions for the first three episodes (as reported by Bleeding Cool). They are as follows:
- High Potential Season 2 Episode 1: “Pawns” – While working tirelessly to shield her family from the Game Maker’s threats, another crime drags Morgan back into his game, and the LAPD must decide whether to trust her instincts before the next move turns fatal.
- High Potential Season 2 Episode 2: “Checkmate” – As the Major Crimes team desperately seeks answers amidst a string of unresolved crimes, Morgan suspects the Game Maker is responsible. Meanwhile, Daphne and Oz set out to find Roman, and Elliot prepares a surprise act for his school’s talent show.
- High Potential Season 2 Episode 3: “Eleven Minutes”? – When a man with a troubled past is killed under mysterious circumstances, Morgan and the LAPD uncover a tragic motive behind his death. Meanwhile, Morgan opens up to Ava about her father, forcing Ava to confront truths she isn’t ready to face.
