Prison wardens arrested in connection with inmate's murder

Four prison wardens have been arrested in connection with the murder of an inmate, Mpho Mkhumbeni, at the Mangaung Correctional Centre in the Free State, South Africa. Mkhumbeni was initially believed to have died of natural causes on March 12, but a post-mortem examination later revealed otherwise. According to Free State police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the original inquest docket was opened under the assumption that Mkhumbenis death was due to natural causes. However, the post-mortem results indicated that he had died from unnatural causes, prompting investigators to reclassify the case as a murder. Further investigations by the Bloemspruit police on the evening of Tuesday resulted in the arrest of four warders, aged between 34 and 50, for the alleged murder of Mkhumbeni, Makhele confirmed. The four accused are scheduled to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, April 23.
