Man City Keep UCL Journey Alive, Liverpool Suffered First Loss

Manchester City managed to keep their Champions League journey alive after grabbing a 3-1 victory over Club Brugge this midweek. Meanwhile, Liverpool still sitting top of the UCL table despite picking up their first defeat in the competition following a loss against PSV.

Man City Go to UCL Playoff After Beating Brugge

Pep Guardiola’s men finally managed to secure a sport in the Champions League playoff phase after winning their home game this midweek. Playing against Belgium outfit, Brugge, Man City grabbed a 3-1 victory despite having to trail 1-0 at halftime.

The visiting team shocked City during the first 45 minutes as they went one goal up thanks to Raphael Onyedika’s goal. However, Man City bounced back after the break as they grabbed three goals back through Mateo Kovacic, Ordonez’s own goal and Savinho’s effort.

That victory was more than enough to take City up into the 22nd place with 11 points from eight matches and just get them ahead of the 25th-placed team, Dinamo Zagreb on goal difference. The Croatian side have to forget their dream of advancing despite having the same points as Man City.

Liverpool Remains Top Despite Loss Against PSV

Another Premier League representative, Liverpool suffered their first loss in the competition after losing 3-2 against PSV Eindhoven. Resting some of their main players for the midweek contest, Arne Slot’s side paid the price as they saw their perfect record blemished in the Netherlands.

The Reds went ahead twice during the first 45 minutes when Cody Gakpo opened the scoring from the spot on 28 minutes. However, PSG equalized through Johan Bakayoko’s effort which only lasted five minutes as Liverpool went up again this time thanks to Harvey Elliot’s goal.

Unfortunately, Slot’s men can’t hold their lead again as PSV equalized on 45 minutes before they completed their comeback with a goal from Ricardo Pepi in stoppage time. No more goals were scored by both teams after the break as the result didn’t matter much for Liverpool which remains sitting top of the UCL standings with 21 points from eight matches.
