Legislation Proposed To Restrict Hip Hop On The US Radio

Brooklyn City Councilwoman Inez Barron wants Hip Hop to clean up its act.

Earlier this week she proposed a resolution asking Hip Hop radio stations to refrain from playing any profane music between 6 AM and 10 PM, when children could be listening.

"According to the [FCC] website airing indecent programming at any time is a violation of federal law," Barron said.

Barron's proposal is part of the "Respect Us" campaign, which was launched by the National Congress of Black Women and calls for an end to music that demeans and degrades women.

Longtime NYC radio host Bob Law is supporting the measure.

"The radio stations that market these kind of ideas refuse to play music by artists whose message is more life giving, so that you have to be a killer rapper in order to get into heavy rotation," Law told Pix 11.

No word on whether Law and Barron are targetting Youtube, which is the forum on which impressible kids children actually listen to music.
