The Gombe State University was established by law on May 6 2004 when the State Governor, Alhaji Muhammed Danjuma Goje (Sarkin Yakin Gombe) signed a Bill of the Gombe State House of Assembly. Academic activities commenced immediately after with the admission of candidates into the School of Basic and Remedial Studies which prepared candidates for admission into the undergraduate programmes of the University.
At inception the University started with three Faculties: Arts & Social Sciences; Education; Science. The University graduated its first set of students in July, 2009 and first maiden convocation ceremony was held on 22nd May 2010, where 165 grandaunts received first degree certificates. Other Faculties have been created: Medicine, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS
Professor
To be eligible for appointment as a Professor, a candidate shall possess a Ph.D or MBBS and the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College or West African Postgraduate Medical College or their equivalent and shall have served for at least three (3) years as Reader.
The candidate must show evidence of outstanding performance in original research, postgraduate supervision, and academic leadership. In addition, The candidate shall demonstrate ability to develop his/her discipline as well as initiate and sustain research in the University and shall be of good character.
Evidence of original research output shall include a minimum of twenty (20) publications, at least twelve (12) of which shall be original articles in recognized academic journals while others may be in conference proceedings, book chapters in book, manuals, and technical reports on recognized research projects, provided that at least five (5) publications have been produced since the last promotion.
Reader/Associate Professor
To be eligible for appointment as a Reader, a candidate shall possess a Ph.D or MBBS and the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College or West African Postgraduate Medical College or their equivalents with at least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at the Senior Lecturer level.
In addition, the candidate must show evidence of outstanding performance in original research, postgraduate supervision, capacity for academic leadership, be of good character and shall ha externally assessed.
Evidence of research output shall include a minimum of fifteen (15) publications, at least eight (

of which shall be Original articles in recognized academic journals while others may be in conference proceedings, book chapters in book, manuals, and technical reports on recognized research projects provided that at least five(5) publications have been produced since the last promotion.
Senior Lecturer
To be eligible for appointment as a Senior Lecturer, a candidate shall possess a Ph.D. or MBBS and the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College or Went African Postgraduate Medical College or their equivalents, must have served for at least that least three (3) years as Lecturer I and show evidence of satisfactory performance in leaching and research. In addition the candidate should have a minimum of eight (

publications, at least five (5) of which shall be original articles in recognized academic journals while others may be in conference proceedings, book chapters in book, manuals, and technical reports on recognized research projects provided that at least three (3) publications have been produced since becoming Lecture I, and shall be of good character.
Assistant Director Information and Communication Technology
To be eligible for appointment as Assistant Director ICT, a candidate shall possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science, with twelve (12) years relevant professional experience, demonstrate considerable experience in the development and implementation of system analysis, programming and data processing, show management ability and leadership qualities, and be of good character.
Successful candidate is expected to teach in the Department of Mathematics.
Assistant Director Consultancy Services
To be eligible for appointment as Assistant Director Consultancy, a candidate shall possess a Ph.D. in Business Administration, with twelve (12) years relevant professional experience, demonstrate considerable experience in the development and implementation of consultancy services, show management ability and leadership qualities, and be of good character.
Successful candidate is to teach in the Department of Business Administration.
Assistant Director Entrepreneurship Development
To be eligible for appointment as Assistant Director Entrepreneurship, a candidate shall possess a Ph.D. in Business Administration, with twelve (12) years relevant professional experience, demonstrate considerable experience in the development and implementation of entrepreneurship services, show management ability and leadership qualities, and be of good character.
