Sony has made available the download links for the new 5.01 system software update developed for its PlayStation 4 gaming consoles, which is a minor update that improves the system’s overall performance.

If you intend to make use of this new release, first ensure that your PS4’s currently installed firmware isn’t either newer or matching version 5.01, and only afterward save the appropriate .PUP file.

To be clear, the upgrade package (approx. 357 MB) requires you to use a FAT32-formatted USB stick, create a “PS4/UPDATE” path on it, and save the downloadable .PUP file in the “Update” folder.

Afterward, just connect the drive, go to Settings > System Software Update, follow all instructions displayed on-screen, and apply the new firmware version on your console without erasing any user data or modifying settings.
