Just when we thought the exploding smartphone nightmare is over, here comes another report from India and revealing a Lenovo model that caught fire all of a sudden.

In a post on Twitter, user @Vignesh3319 reveals that his colleague’s Lenovo K4 Note exploded right next to his desk, and although the aftermath of the incident looks frightening to say the least, no injures were reported.

Details are still sketchy at this point, but Lenovo has already responded to the tweet, saying that it needs more information to investigate, so the company probably contacted the owner to determine the cause of the explosion.

“This Lenovo K4 Note exploded in to flames today morning. Just 1 ft across my colleague’s desk. Hope you take necessary actions,” the original tweet reads. “It was placed right next to his workstation. Some quick and proactive safety measures averted disaster.”

Known issues?
Lenovo quickly replied on Twitter and posted: “Sorry to hear about this. Were anyone got hurt? Pls send us a DM so we could assist you. Thanks.” Later the same day, the official account of Lenovo India also joined the conversation, asking the man to provide some extra details to “fix this at the earliest.”

The main Lenovo account also linked to a forum discussion where K3 Note owners (the previous model) are complaining about overheating issues, which could be an indication that the company is actually aware that its devices are suffering from such problems, though it’s not yet clear how exactly it addressed them.

Lenovo customers who posted in this thread complained that their K3 Note devices were overheating, and a possible workaround was upgrading the device from Android 5.0 Lollipop to Marshmallow. The same could be the case with the K4 Note as well, as the device launched with Lollipop but received the upgrade to Marshmallow a few months ago.

It’s not yet known what version of Android the unit that exploded was running or whether it was charging or in use, but judging from the photos below, it all started from the battery compartment, just like in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
