Premier League Week 2 Round Up: Liverpool Late Win vs Newcastle

Liverpool beat Newcastle United 3-2 in a dramatic tie at St. James Park.

Premier League defending champion, Liverpool, left it late as they grabbed their second win this season by beating Newcastle United 3-2. The Reds’ youngster, Rio Ngumoha, was the hero for them in that match as he scored the winning goal deep in added time.

Liverpool Win It Late Against Newcastle

The Reds continue their positive start this season, winning their second game after picking up all three points also in their opening fixture. Starting the 2025/26 season by beating Bournemouth 4-2, Liverpool picked up another maximum result on Monday.

Arne Slot’s side snatch an important away victory as they take down Newcastle 3-2, in a thrilling contest which saw the home team playing with 10 men.  Anthony Gordon saw red just before half-time break following a tackle on Virgil Van Dijk.

Before the red card tragedy for Newcastle, Liverpool already put themselves ahead thanks to a goal from Ryan Gravenberch in 35 minutes.  The visitor doubles their advantage straight from the restart, this time through their new signing, Hugo Ekitike.

However, despite having a comfortable 2-0 lead, Liverpool found themselves in trouble as Newcastle were not prepared to give up. The home team pulled one goal back with a header from Bruno Guimaraes on 57 minutes, before drawing level through William Osula on 88 minutes.

Just as the match seemed to be heading for a draw, Liverpool snatched the unlikely winner, thanks to Ngumoha. The 16-year-old talent didn’t waste a wonderful opportunity in added time to give his side the lead with his fine finish inside the box.
