The Plateau State Police Command on Monday raised serious concerns over the sudden resurgence of some crimes, especially car theft.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, ASP Mathias Tyopev Terna, made available to journalists in Jos.

The statement advised car owners in the State to take minimum security measures in safeguarding their vehicles by getting for themselves pedal locks, steering locks among others, in addition to the tracking devices being used by some people.

It reads, “We advise that whenever an occasion is to take place in any area within the state, the organisers should endeavour to inform the DPO of any area for wither security coverage or advice.”

“We also wish to inform members of the public that the activities of these thieves popularly known as ‘one chance’ who normally operate with their cars close to banks or other government offices is also on the increase”, the statement added.

“Members of the public are equally advised to report suspicious strange faces within their society to the station nearest to them, these people may be Boko Haram members or criminals running away for the North-East onslaught”, the statement advised.

“While our officers and men are up and doing to make sure that the situation is curtailed and the crimes nip in the bud, we plead with members of the public to be extra vigilant and guide against boarding vehicles outside designated motor parks.

“We therefore plead with members of the public to help us to serve them better by adhering to our well intended advice”.
