Osinbajo monitors recovered loots as Presidency unleashes 9 anti-corruption weap

– The presidency is getting set to introduce special crimes court to try corruption cases, the PACAC has revealed on Monday, October 17

– The PACAC also confirmed to the media that it has designed 9 new anti-corruption documents for the federal government to implement

– Vice president Yemi Osinbajo will lead a committee for the management and administration of recovered stolen assets

Speaking at a media interaction/press conference in Abuja on Monday, October 17, PACAC chairman Professor Itse Sagay and Executive Secretary Professor B Owasanoye revealed that the documents are now ready for adoption by the government.

The documents presented for adoption are:

Draft national anti-corruption action plan and strategy document
Corruption case management manual
Plea bargain manual
Corruption information/intelligence sharing protocol
Federal sentencing guidelines for corruption and other related offences
Strategic communications blueprint for Federal government in the fight against corruption
Assets recovery strategy document
Framework for management and administration of recovered stolen assets
Draft bill and explanatory memorandum for the establishment of special crimes court
It appears that the presidency has already begun implementing some of the documents because PACAC scribe Prof Owasanoye revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has already set up the Presidential Committee on Asset Recovery which is chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Members of the committee he said include Attorney general of the federation Abubakar Malami, finance minister Kemi Adeosun, nation security adviser Babgana Monguno, Department of State Service, inspector general of police Ibrahim Idris, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission as well as PACAC itself.

Meanwhile, PACAC on Monday said that it received 50 petitions in one across Nigeria.

The committee said the petition was received between August 2015 when the committee was inaugurated and July 31, 2016.

“The petitions cover a myriad of corruption-related issues including alleged cases of fraud, misappropriation of funds, unlawful dismissals, etc,” the committee said.
