Ndi Eze Igbo hail Udehs emergence, call for unity in Lagos community

Igbo

By Esther Onyegbula

LAGOSThe Council of Ndi Eze Igbo has congratulated  Sunday Udeh on his emergence as President General of the Igbo-Speaking Community in Lagos, describing it as the dawn of a new era of peace and unity among Ndigbo in the state.

The congratulatory message followed the peaceful handover by the former President General,  Sunday Eze, who voluntarily stepped down after years of leadership tussle that divided the community into factions.

Chairman of the Council of Ndi Eze Igbo, Eze Chika C. Nwokedi, who played a central role in the reconciliation process, commended the former PG for listening to wise counsel and prioritising peace over personal interest.

At the inauguration of  Udeh and the new executive held in Lagos on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Nwokedi, alongside HRH Igwe Ferdinand Aguneke, General Secretary of the Council, conveyed the councils goodwill message.

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Sunday Udeh, the President General of the Igbo-Speaking Community in Lagos, and the distinguished members of the newly established executive council, on a new era that will elevate our shared aspirations to greater heights, the message read in part.

The council expressed confidence that the new administration would restore harmony, uphold the founding fathers vision, and avoid internal strife.

Nwokedi also urged the new leadership to end indiscriminate conferment of Eze-ship titles, ensure transparency in finances, and entrench accountability. He further encouraged Ndigbo in Lagos to abide by state laws, while urging the Lagos State Government to sustain its support.

According to him, The Igbo-speaking community has once again found harmony. It is now our collective responsibility to safeguard the peace and ensure that division does not return.
