Xiaomi 18 Pro might take the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s USP

The Xiaomi 18 Pro could be set to emulate the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s standout feature.

When the Galaxy S26 Ultra landed earlier in the year, it did so with the novel Privacy Display feature front and centre. This magically (or so it seems) blocks out sensitive screen content for anyone but the user through clever directed-light screen technology.

According to serial tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Xiaomi is looking to implement a similar feature into the 2K-resolution display of its next flagship phone, the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

We had heard previously that Xiaomi was working on such a feature around a month ago, but it seemed uncertain at the time whether this was going to be a proper hardware and software-based solution like Samsung’s, or a software-only half measure.

According to this Weibo claim, though, Xiaomi is implementing “comprehensive hardware and software support” for the feature. In other words, it’s doing the whole Privacy Display thing properly.

Xiaomi’s plans for 2026

It seems the company will be unveiling the Xiaomi 18 range in September, as was the case with the Xiaomi 17 series in 2025.

Xiaomi has just rolled out the 17T and 17T Pro, which continue the line’s tradition for high-performing, pocket-friendly mid-range phones. However, while those phones launched months ahead of their usual release window (September), there’s no indication that the Xiaomi 18 series will be following suit.

The regular Xiaomi 17 omits the stand-out rear-mounted secondary display of the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, something which is expected to continue on the next-gen models.

We’ve also heard that the Xiaomi 18 Pro will pack in a pair of 200Mp cameras, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could feature a new 6.9-inch LIPO screen that can drop as low as 1 nit of brightness. And it looks like the Pro models might finally go global, after several years of only regular and Ultra variants making it to Europe.

As for Samsung, it’s expected to expand its pioneering Privacy Display feature to a new Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro model, which will take its place as a fourth option in the range rather than replacing any in the S26 lineup. Said display could use an unusual 6.47-inch panel, according to Digital Chat Station.

Will other phone makers follow suit and introduce their own versions of Privacy Display? It was very well received on the S26 Ultra, with our reviewer Luke Baker describing it as “amazing technology” and “no gimmick”.
