For a pair of earbuds that first made waves back in 2022, the Anker Soundcore Space A40 still manages to feel current—and the price drop to $49.89 (down from $99.99), which is the lowest they’ve ever gone (according to price trackers), makes them worth a second look. Back when they launched, PCMag gave them an Editor’s Choice and named them the best budget earphones of the year. The fundamentals for that haven’t changed much. In terms of design, the A40s are compact and comfortable, with silicone tips in multiple sizes to help you get a good seal. Inside, 10mm drivers deliver a frequency range of 20Hz to 40kHz, and the sound leans balanced rather than bass-heavy, though you can tweak it in the app if you want more punch. Android users get the bonus of LDAC support, which is usually reserved for pricier models, but even iPhone owners will be fine sticking with AAC. The app also lets you customize the controls, since the default double-tap gestures feel a little limited, notes this PCMag review.

The noise cancellation of these IPX4-rated earbuds does a good job with the constant low rumble of planes or traffic, though, reportedly, sharper, busier environments still get through a bit. You might also notice the sound shifting slightly when ANC is on, but it’s nothing you can’t adjust for in the EQ. Battery life is around 10 hours per charge with ANC off, and up to 50 more from the case. Even if those numbers shift in real-world use, they’ll easily last through a day or two of heavy listening.
