Peacemaker season 2 at a glance:
- The second season will premiere in August 2025
- The plot will be centred around Rick Flag Sr seeking revenge for the death of his son
- The latest season 2 trailer introduces an alternate dimension
The long-awaited second instalment of Peacemaker is looming on the horizon. At Comic Con 2025 in San Diego, Warner Bros has finally published the full trailer of season 2. Thanks to the clip, you’ll not only see Christopher Smith and his gang, but also catch a glimpse of the alternate dimension where, as one of the characters puts it, “the grass is greener”.
Christopher Smith, aka? Peacemaker, first appeared onscreen in 2021 in Gunn’s campy film The Suicide Squad. The rogue superhero (or rather, villain) was rude, had controversial views and wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but he captivated audiences. DC executives? quickly decided to give him a standalone show.
The Peacemaker series debuted on Max in 2022 and was a smash hit. The black humour and camp aesthetics refreshed the formula of DC’s superhero stories. The opening credits sequence, fuelled by the banger Do Ya Wanna Taste It, was also an instant internet classic.
The season finale left fans hungry for more Peacemaker. Here’s everything we know about the second season of his show.
When will Peacemaker season 2 be released?
According to James Gunn, the second season of Peacemaker will debut on Max on Thursday, 21 August 2025. It will consist of eight episodes.
Shooting for the second season of Peacemaker started on 13 April 2024, and now the show is in post-production.
The new season is a part of the DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters project, developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the heads of DC Studios. The first entry in the rebooted universe is Superman,? which premiered on 11 July 2025.
Initially, the Waller series, telling the story of Amanda Waller, was to appear before the return of Peacemaker. Ultimately, Gunn gave up on this idea – the series about the head of the Task Force X program will now premiere after Peacemaker season 2.
What will the plot of Peacemaker season 2 involve?
The official logline for the second season of Peacemaker states:
The new season follows Christopher “Chris” Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante Super Hero as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost.
All indications are that it will be a completely new story. James Gunn has announced that season 1 won’t be considered DCU canon, although certain events from Peacemaker’s past will be relevant.
According to the chief of DC Studios, the new Superman movie will impact Peacemaker season 2, which could explain Cena’s cameo in the film, which led to wild speculation about what this meant for the universe.
Which cast members will return for Peacemaker season 2?
Peacemaker’s second season will feature:
- John Cena as Peacemaker / Christopher Smith
- Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, the daughter of Amanda Waller
- Jennifer Holland as Agent Emilia Harcourt, the special ops expert of the team
- Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante?
- Steve Agee as John Economos, the team’s tech expert
- Viola Davis as Amanda Waller
- Nhut Le as Judomaster
- Lochlyn Munro as Larry Fitzgibbon
- Annie Chang as Detective Sophie Song
- Christopher Heyerdahl as Captain Locke
Which new characters will appear in Peacemaker season 2?
So far, James Gunn has revealed two major new characters who will appear in the second season.
The first one is Rick Flag Sr. (the father of Rick Flag, who died in The Suicide Squad), who will be introduced in DC’s new animated series, Creature Commandos. In Peacemaker season 2 he will be played by Frank Grillo.
As Gunn told Entertainment Weekly, Rick Flag Sr. will be a complicated character:
This isn’t just a good guy, not at all. We see all different sides of his character. He is morally a complex human being. Grillo is somebody who I’ve known for a little while, and I’ve wanted to work with him for a long time. He was one of the first people that I talked to when I took over the studio, like ‘we’re going to find something cool for you,’ and now he is everywhere.
Recently, James Gunn teased another character, publishing on social media a picture of the mysterious individual:
In response to the post, DC fans began guessing who might be in the picture. Based on the distinctive braids and feather embellishments, many fans are betting on Apache Chief – a Native American superhero appearing in an animated series Super Friends in the 1970s and ’80s.
Another possibility is Long Shadow, an Apache Chief-inspired character who appeared in the Justice League Unlimited animated show, airing in 2004-2006.
The second season will also feature Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, one of many incarnations of Green Lantern. This version of the green-suited superhero in comic books appeared in 1968 and later became a parody of an American macho figure. Guy Gardner also appeared in the Superman movie and will star in the Lanterns series.
In Peacemaker season 2, you will also spot Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl. In the comics, Kendra was a young Hispanic woman who committed suicide. However, she didn’t completely die. Her soul left her body, but was replaced with the soul of her ancestor, Shiera Hall, the reincarnation of the ancient Egyptian princess and the first Hawkgirl.
The season will also introduce Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, a supervillain who can control minds. In fact, Maxwell Lord has already appeared on the screen – in Wonder Woman 1984 (he was portrayed by Pedro Pascal). However, James Gunn decided to recast the character, presumably giving him a new story and personality.
Also joining the cast will be:
- Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux
- Tim Meadows as ARGUS Agent Langston Fleur
- Alison Araya as Amber
- Lenny Jacobson as Evan
- David Denman
