Program Assistant at Population Services International (PSI)

PSI is a global health organization dedicated to improving the health of people in the developing world by focusing on serious challenges like a lack of family planning, HIV and AIDS, barriers to maternal health, and the greatest threats to children under five, including malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition.

A hallmark of PSI is a commitment to the principle that health services and products are most effective when they are accompanied by robust communications and distribution efforts that help ensure wide acceptance and proper use.

PSI works in partnership with local governments, ministries of health and local organizations to create health solutions that are built to last.

HISTORY

PSI was founded in 1970 to improve reproductive health using commercial marketing strategies. For its first 15 years, PSI worked mostly in family planning (hence the name Population Services International). In 1985, it started promoting oral rehydration therapy. PSI’s first HIV prevention project - which promoted abstinence, fidelity and condoms - began in 1988. PSI added malaria and safe water to its portfolio in the 1990s and tuberculosis in 2004.We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Program Assistant to join our team, focusing on Menstrual Hygiene Health initiatives. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation and growth of our menstrual hygiene programs. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong commitment to supporting and leading initiatives that promote menstrual health and hygiene. S/he will support the effective implementation of the MH-NoW program, with a strong focus on communications, digital engagement, and social media management. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for women’s health, highly organized, tech-savvy, and skilled in developing compelling online content that drives awareness and action.

Your contribution

You will be responsible for the following:

Support Program Implementation:

Provide administrative support for the planning and execution of menstrual hygiene health events, workshops, and campaigns.
Assist in coordinating logistics for distribution of menstrual hygiene products to target communities.
Support the development of educational materials and resources.

Communications and Stakeholders Engagement:

Support in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, schools, and healthcare professionals.
Collaborate with external partners to leverage resources and support for menstrual hygiene initiatives.
Support the development and design of digital content (posts, graphics, videos, infographics) in line with program objectives and brand guidelines.
Manage the MH-NoW social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), including content creation, scheduling, engagement, and analytics.
Monitor online conversations and trends related to menstrual health and amplify relevant messages and campaign activities.
Support the documentation of program activities, success stories, and lessons learned for newsletters, reports, and advocacy materials.

Ensure Data Collection and Reporting:

Implement data collection systems to track program outcomes and impact.
Compile and analyze data to prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of program activities.

Qualifications and Experience

A degree in Communications, Public Health, the social sciences, or a related field.
At least 1–2 years of experience in program support, digital communications, or social media management in a development, health, or advocacy-focused organization.
Proven experience managing professional social media accounts, including using scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, Meta Business Suite).
Strong writing, graphic design (Canva or Adobe Suite), and storytelling skills.
Experience with community engagement, menstrual health or reproductive health programming is an added advantage.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in a major local language is an asset.

What We Offer

Opportunity to contribute to a high-impact program improving the lives of women and girls in Nigeria.
Supportive and inclusive team environment.
Capacity building and professional development opportunities.

The candidate we hire will embody PSI’s corporate values:

Measurement: You use hard evidence to make decisions and guide your work. You set clear goalposts in advance and explain clearly if you need to move them.
Pragmatism: You will strive to deliver the best possible result with the resources available. You will not be paralyzed by a need to make things perfect.
Honesty: You own your mistakes and are open about your shortcomings – it is the only way you will learn and improve.
Collaboration: You will quickly establish a mental map of whom you can rely on for what, on your team, at headquarters, and in our country offices – if you try to do it all yourself, you will not succeed.
Trust: You accept limits to your sphere of control and give colleagues the benefit of the doubt.
Commitment: You are in it for the long-haul and want to grow with the organization, just like PSI serves its consumers and partners with host-country governments through thick and thin.
