Billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump is expanding his lead nationally over his challengers for the U.S. Republican presidential nomination, the latest political survey showed Wednesday, and he also is maintaining his sizeable advantage in South Carolina ahead of Saturday's primary election there.

Quinnipiac University's national poll showed the flamboyant Trump with 39 percent support, followed by 19 percent for Florida Senator Marco Rubio, 18 percent for Texas Senator Ted Cruz and other Republicans even further back.  Tuesday's CNN/ORC poll showed Trump with 38 percent support in South Carolina ahead of Republican voting in the mid-Atlantic state, a 16-point advantage over Cruz and wider leads over the other four remaining candidates.
