Arsenal are weighing up a move for Bayer Leverkusen's striker Victor Boniface, with the Nigerian international reportedly a target for the Emirates side having helped his current team win the Bundesliga last season. The 23-year-old Nigerian international has previously played for Norwegian outfit Bodo Glimt and Belgian side Union SG, both of whom enjoyed success during Boniface's spell at both clubs.


Last season's shock Bundesliga victory for Bayer Leverkusen will live long in the memory, and Boniface could be considered one of the players that made the most important contribution during that campaign. Boniface had been named in the Bundesliga Team of The Season, as well as the Rookie of the Season, and scored 14 goals in 23 top flight games, as well as a further seven goals in all other competitions.

The Gunners are looking to sign other attackers during the transfer window, despite Gabriel Jesus looking decent in pre-season and the popular Kai Havertz seen as Arsenal's first choice striker, but the signing of Boniface would add plenty of depth and it is understood Arsenal could bid around ?60 million for the striker. That is some way off of Leverkusen's transfer valuation, and manager Xabi Alonso is said to be desperate to keep hold of the forward for at least one more season.

Arsenal are expecting to be active during the final couple of the weeks of the transfer window, and the club's sporting director Edu has been given a hefty budget to spend on new players after the sale of Emile Smith-Rowe to Fulham. It is understood that Eddie Nketiah could still depart for Marseille on loan, despite a potential permanent deal to the French outfit falling through yesterday.
