A United States fighter jet shot down an armed, pro-Syrian regime drone early Tuesday, as the drone advanced on coalition forces in southern Syria, military officials said.

Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said an F-15E Strike Eagle shot down an Iranian-made Shahed 129 drone about 12:30 a.m. local time as it approached an established coalition combat outpost near al-Tanf, where the U.S. is training local fighters battling the Islamic State.
