WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging applications for mobile and is available across several platforms including Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Windows Phone. Back in January 2015, we told you that WhatsApp announced that the mobile application was used by over 700 million users all over the world.

Fast forward a few months (to September) and WhatsApp is announcing new figures that illustrate a tremendous growth. This week, the startup has revealed that the app has crossed the threshold of 900 million monthly active users. The announcement was made by founder Jan Koum on Facebook.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg also congratulated Koum for the occasion via a comment. Back in February 2014, the social media genius acquired WhatsApp for more than $16 / ?14 billion.

Recently, a study revealed that almost three quarters of WhatsApp?s fan base uses Android devices, with only 22% of them using the chat app on iOS. Only 10% of WhatsApp users turned out to be Windows Phone owners.
