Even though Windows is dominating the desktop market with a market share of approximately 90 percent, this doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone is pleased with Microsoft’s operating system.

And a recent survey conducted by Verto Analytics reveals that no less than 21 percent of the Windows users in the United States would switch to Apple’s Mac should they have the chance. But let’s take everything one at a time and see why so many users would gladly embrace Apple’s devices.

First and foremost, it’s worth noting that Apple customers appear to be very pleased with their devices, and only 2 percent of them said they would jump ship to Windows. 98 percent of them, however, claimed they would stick with Apple’s Mac for their next computer.

21 percent of Windows laptop owners find Macs very compelling product, and this figure increases to 25 percent when it comes to desktop computers. These users intend to switch to a Mac within the next six months, though the transition depends on a series of factors, including budget.

Who wants to get a Mac?
The research shows that most users who want to switch from Windows to Mac have an average income of $150,000 or more, so these are mostly people in the upper income bracket. On the other hand, those with lower income, such as $20,000 or less, said they would indeed move to a Mac, but the likelihood of this happening is substantially smaller because of the high costs of Apple’s devices.

What’s a bit worrying for Microsoft though, is that even young respondents or people with lower incomes would switch to Macs, saying that a transition from Windows to Apple would be considered at a later time when their income increases.

In the meantime, however, Microsoft and Apple are going head-to-head in the premium device market as well, with Redmond going after the Cupertino rival with a series of very exquisite devices that are part of the Surface lineup, such as the Surface Studio, which is a direct rival to the iMac.
